HYPB

High Yield Particle Beam

One of the most devastating weapons in the war on the Tak'nhetian side is the particle beam cannon. These weapons are rare in the fleed due to the nature of the weapon and the requirements for its use.

Aiming

The HYPB fires in a straight line. This means that it is best suited to agile ships that can quickly adjust to keep the target painted. This means that capitol scale weapons are generally only good against other capitol ships and space stations.

Power Demands Only gravitic weapons are hungrier for power than the HYPB. The power requirements have limited the weapon to capitol class and specialized cruiser class ships with a few notable exceptions such as the Vengeance 2a which possesses vastly overpowered engines for its size.

Effect of Weapon

Unlike pulsed weapons that dominate the fleet, the HYPB can sustain fire so long as it has a stable power input. An integrated MEC produces energized particles that are accelerated and focused into a large beam with an effect similar to being placed too close to a star's corona. Resulting in both shield ionization and then armor erosion, HYPB systems can devour both shields and armor. While it is one of the most difficult weapons on the TN Fleet, the proper application of it can be devastating

Effectiveness in the war

Particle beam weapons were and remained one of the few weapons that were effective against Hycyanth ships. Unfortunately, they were uncommon weapons and by the time they could be made even slightly more portable, other weapons replaces them including the introduction of the Valkyrie Class fighter. The sight of Intrpid's massive HYPB firing on and then tear clear through a small Hycyanth cruiser was also good for morale, and Merrimac's turreted HYPB arrays were always impressive for a few seconds.
