The Fireproof Elder
The origins of Tobaros remain a mystery to this day, but like Apnuci, he is believed to have originated in Europe and migrated to North America. Scarce records have noted a monster of his description in the lore of the Vikings, suggesting that he may have traveled with them across the sea as a sort of worthy adversary or a lesser deity. From what can be gathered, Tobaros was an active feeder that appeared on battlefields and claimed single prey in combat. Over the ages, this lead to sufficient PKE buildup that he attained elder status and sought to retire. The use of fire was noted in these records, and it would appear that the ancient past held the origin of Tobaros and his near immunity to heat and fire, a characteristic that only the Mochi share with him.
Thermal resistance is rare in gooroo, and once attained it makes them almost impossible to defeat. Tobaros has spent lifetimes working on hardening his shell against thermal damage, and while he has succeeded, his gel core does not share this protection. As a result, piercing damage with heat can still be debilitating. This daunting ability is what terrified Apnuci as a young gooroo and led her to develop her own gooroo-slaying poisons.
Current Life and Motivations
Tobaros leads an unusual life for a monster. He struck a deal with a small town to serve as its protector with the understanding he would slay any aggressor or monster within miles of the town in exchange for being treated as a normal person. He has taken up a job baking bread and making pizzas given that he smells of rosemary, basil, and tomato already, and he has kept his word for over fifty years. He dislikes disturbances that might change his comfortable retirement, and deals harshly with any threat to his town and its populace. If respected, he is a simple and old farm-hand sort of personality that can come across gruff at times. If he had one goal he thought he could attain beyond this, it might be a means to alleviate the PKE need of his people and make them civilized.
