Origin

Haz is unusual in that he was discovered while very young and taken into the care of those he might prey upon. As a doctor, his adopted father had some theories on gooroos, and Haz presented a unique opportunity. He theorized that it was not the flesh but something of the spirit that the gooroos preyed on which is what actually differentiated them from their primitive dungeon dwelling kin. Because gooroos had a peculiar side effect of being more or less germ free, Haz was trained as a medical assistant while still only a few years old. Because of the nature of the hospital, Haz was routinely in the presence of the dying, and this he always had some small PKE input that kept him from desiring more.

The part that his father did not anticipate is that Haz understood and felt the pains of death from all those he was near, and until that point, no one knew what made each gooroo attain such diverse attributes as had been seen in cases such as Maple, Smotele, Tobaros, and Apnuci. It was not uncommon for loved ones to touch the injured or dying to try and comfort them, and soon Haz imitated them. Haz's touch, however, had the unique ability of removing all sensation of pain and discomfort from the one he touched. In truth, he was transferring the pain to himself, enduring everything so that the patient did not have to suffer. He was very popular among the patients and especially those with chronic pain.

Despite his gentle demeanor and generally helpful behavior, Haz was feared by the community because he is among the monstrous races, and gooroos were known man eaters. HIs size at adolescence did not help, a lumber creature of seven feet poking about the hospital, but no one could touch him while his father remained. Unfortunately, the day came when his father's health failed him, and Haz was at his side when he died. By his fathers bidding, who hates the idea of being buried, Haz himself disposed of his body by consuming after he had died. Everyone thought he finally snapped and turned killer, and he was forced to flee into the mountains where he remains today.

Special Abilities

Some gooroos, like Apnuci and Smotele, possess multiple forms of which some are larger and more aggressive. Haz has only one form, but it is a large form. While he closer in size to Apnuci, dwarfed by the great giants Mochi and Smotele, he cannot assume a smaller shape. This makes him more kin to Mochi than any other gooroo. Haz's large size comes mostly from the fact that he is mostly air space and can be relatively buoyant like a blimp. Combines with a set of air moving tendrils, of which no one understands, Haz is one of if not the only known airborne gooroo. This makes traversing long distances and rough terrain very simple him.

Diet

While Haz is an adult, he is still actively taking on PKE though slower than he did as a child. Haz is very particular about who he eats. HIs prey are alwasy wilderness wanderers that fall prey to injury or illness and would otherwise never make it home anyhow. He always offers the same thing: he will bind wounds and give people the chance to try and make it home, but he will be there to make everything painless and calm for them should they be unable to go on. Many of his meals are those that wouldn't make it at all, and those he comforts in their final moments. Because he is a passive feeder, he does not generally consume the victim. He will, however, either bury or bring their bodies to the edge of a road where they might be found based on the will of the victim. As such, along with Mobrasu, he is proof that even these dangerous predators can be compassionate beings.
