History

A Born Hunter

Rico comes from a small colony of Strafe that were abandoned by their creators and assumed dead after their carrier was shot down. Enough Strafe survived to set up their own colony, and over the course of seventy years on their own, they managed to thrive. When the colony was later discovered by miners expecting the find the planet without sentient life, the colony was able to reconnect with the galaxy and head out into the cosmos once more. SOme of the Strafe remained and worked alongside the miners and eventually were integrated into their society. Others broke off to live simpler lives elsewhere. Rico was not in either of these groups.

Hunting was essential for survival with limited technology and no chance for a supply drop ship. Rico had an advantage as a hunter in that he seemed to vanish from sight at times. The experience was not a pleasant one, but he was able to control it enough to use it in hunts as well as when he needed to slip past something that might well make him into its lunch. In Rico's case, he was using the Felyxa weaving technique without knowing it, and because of this he was not very skilled with it.

Used to hunting and being hunted, farming and mining didn't sit well with him, so he left with a smaller group to find his own place in the galaxy. He eventually joined a mercenary guild where his abilities were prized, and from there he was able to gradually armor and arm himself to his liking. With enough credits and some connections in the guild, he added flight training and combat to his growing list of skills. Able to move about and operate on his own, he began doing solo missions to prove his worth while still joining in operations with his former teammates for profit and to keep good connections.

Beautiful Eyes

Somewhere lost in all the missions and training there was a member of the then defunct IIGD engineering staff. They knew their product when they saw it, and finding a naturally born instead of cloned Strafe was interesting enough to make an introduction. However, the old engineer also knew enough about the old projects and the smaller details in the notes most overlook. In particular, she noticed Rico's amber flecked green eyes, and she knew very well what that implied.

Wanting to find a way into the Felyxa's circles, the engineer told Rico a good deal about his abilities without even seeing them. This was enough for Rico to listen and even take some time off from his work to take on a courier mission to bring the engineer to the Felyxa.

Rico had no idea what weaving was nor that he was using it to find his way to the home of the species he was originally patterned from. Getting an audience took some work, but the moment Rico was face to face with one of the Felyxa, everything changed.

Weaver Training

Seeing a Strafe with the eyes of a Weaver Card meant the Felyxa took immediate responsibility for his training because they understood how dangerous an untrained Card could be. Rico would spend the next five years training among not only the Felyxa but other hex species that had been cast aside by IIGD or who ended up on their own when the company was torn apart.During this training it became obvious that Rico, not being a full blood Felyxa, had a limited set of weaves he could use, but they were all potentially dangerous.

The most prominent weave he has is the vanishing weave. IN truth, it is more like a needle going under a canvas to come out in another place. The needle does not vanish, but it wraps the fabric above it in a way that it can no longer be seen. Rico was sliding under the fabric of one realm to hide in another as he moved thus making him invisible to normal detection but also caught walking through a dangerous place alone. He was trained how to keep his wits and his sense of location while transiting the weave which makes him an excellent ambush predator. While only able to safely hide under the weave for about a minute at a time, it is generally enough for him to get very close to his target.

Rico also has a common weave that allows him to feel, not actually see, a few seconds ahead in time. Often used by pilots, Rico also uses it during close combat situations where knowing where to be and where not to be at the right moment is critical.

Modest Mercenary

After all his training, Rico's perspective on his abilities, the galaxy as a whole, and the role of a mercenary was greatly altered. Money became less of an item, and it was certainly secondary to the moral issues involved with the job. Still, he felt that sometimes you had to do what seemed terrible in order to bring about a much greater amount of good. Typically he limited this to wiping out large numbers of less scrupulous folk to send a message to those further up the chain. He was never much for attacking those that couldn't defend themselves, and this was even stronger after his training.

Rico is generally known and hired to be an equalizer. When darker forces gather and oppress others, he cuts them down to size, and he charges only what he needs to keep going with that goal. He has a reputation as a dangerous individual, but he has kept his record clean enough that authorities haven't been able to come for him.
