Before the Light

In the beginning there was darkness...

And Gravitas was the foundation of that darkness. In the beginning there was darkness and all things were without shape and form, but not without consciousness. Bodies had no boundaries, there were no eyes to judge the appearance of another, and nothing to prevent a being from being something else from one moment to the next. However, consciousness implies beings of conscious thought and sentience, and Gravitas was by far the most powerful of them.

What made Gravitas stronger than any other Darkness was that her reach was infinite unlike all other forces in the universe. She touched all things, and in doing so, she defined their movement through the darkness and thus also acted as Fate. Because she touched and moved all things, she also bore the greatest feeling of responsibility and grief as she constantly contemplated the gravity of the situation. Hidden in darkness, Gravitas kept a journal of her thoughts, thus unwittingly setting the seed for a new universe where the other Darkness would not be able to seize it.

The Bang

Normally Gravitas remained still as a relatively passive element in the darkness, and this was good. She was reliable, strong, and never complained. Then one day, she began to wonder if what is must always be and whether she or anyone could be something more. She wanted to change, and for a moment she wasn't paying attention to what she was doing and she moved. The entire universe shuddered as the true power, one taken for granted, of Gravitas revealed itself. Darkness was suddenly compacted into a tiny ball that erupted in something new: light. And so she unwittingly made light in the darkness, and as the universe expanded, her frantic efforts to put things back as they were would spawned stars and galaxies while the Darkness began taking on forms of its own. In horror, Darkness fled to the edges of the universe and the shadows between the stars. The might have devoured it all and locked Gravitas up if not for the meddling other beings.

Chaos

The light was not the only thing that appeared with the light. A new realm of possibilities had been opened wide, and with it came a new power that could shatter or restore darkness, could cause the unthinkable to happen and fade, and keep anyone from knowing where the truth and future lay. The power was Chaos, and it came in the form of two entities: The Jinx and Lady Luck. In the first iteration of the universe, they prevented Darkness from retaking its old glory by protecting and heartening Gravitas until such time as Darkness fond other ways to attack Gravitas. In the second iteration, however, The Jinx crated a new trinity of guardians known as the Chodonex that, like him, would spawn more of their kind if they were defeated, this forcing Darkness to reconsider how many chaos children it wanted to deal with.

Dear Diary

A side effect of Chaos entering the darkness was the creation of a muse. Unlike all later muses, this one was formed from the hidden diary of Gravitas. The single sheet turns into a similarly flat-ish creature, a sugar glider, and the rest of the journal became hers to continue. The muse, the aberrant muse later would be come Abigail Normal who has always dutifully recorded the events of the universe such that Darkness cannot simply erase them from memory and from existence.

Gravitas in the Current Era

Because of Morticon and Zen, the second iteration of the universe is more chaos drive than fate managed. Probability rules, Lady Luck does as she wishes while holding back the Darkness, and The Jinx has once again created an elaborate Dream Nexus for Gravitas. This leaves Gravitas resting in the safety of a more open Nexus with Jinx always at her side. Instead of trying to control all that is, Gravitas now lets Chaos set events in motion and instead of taking over, she gently guides the right parts where and then they need to be. She works closely with Lady Luck when times are dire to ensure heroes arise when they must.
