A Diplomatic Offering

Ta the end of what was called the Time War, a conflict involving time travel, bio-mimetic androids, and more, an offering of two androids, Faraday and Coulomb (their true names unpronounceable in Terran language) were made withthe most advanced capabilities that the Kaelid could manage were offered to the Myris as a sign a peace. The diplomatic system was meant to be heavily encrypted, obviously android to even a casual observer, and artistically pleasing.

The androids were well received, and they dutifully served as the Myris commander's escorts for several years before they were passed down to his chosen son.

The Metaphysical Snag

One of the most interesting parts of Coulomb and Faraday is their Ambient Energy Skimmer, or AES. The AES was tuned to absorb EM radiation from universal background all the way up to far IR. However, the AES was inadvertently tuned to take on another form of energy: ley line power. The ancient ley lines, the sole remnant of the world's magic, was sufficient at an ancient nexus point for both androids to snag on the power source. The interface resulted in a massive system failure followed by a reboot and slow creep of personalities that they lacked prior to the event.

The nature of the energy generated an almost organic layer of circuits over the basal layer of electronics and thus created a new life form in each of them. Coulomb became more extroverted with a love of dance and personal interaction and Faraday more introverted with a love of botany and a tendency to be silent but for moments of deep insight.

Death of Coulomb and the Search for Self

After Coulomb's death, Faraday was only half of a person. He still had the magical overlay in his systems that made him more than a machine, but half of his data was lost when Coulomb died, and the shock of losing her turned him into a silent machine. He attempted to continue in his former capacity as an assistant to his master, but he never recovered from that day. His young master saw both of them as something more than machines, and so he finally spoke to Faraday and told him that he needed to leave this world because the answers he needed could not be found here. With his master's aid, Faraday was able to devise a means of leaving the planet quietly to seek out something that might make him whole again.

His travels eventually brought him to Spindizzy where he was very much a sort of automaton instead of a person for quite a while. The affection of an otterly android named Bleu2 was an early catalyst for changes in Faraday's behavior. He would later go on to meet a number of residents from around the floating plaentoid, and even enroll in magic classes in the city of St. Marin where he would be close to close friends Kachi and Pira, and where he would finally create his garden and home. His son, Joule would be his masterpiece and one he made in otter like form in honor of Bleu2.

Special Modes

Mode 1: Faraday cage; As one might expect, this caused blackouts in data transfer just as an wired cage might shield the contents form electromagnetic noise. Faraday's cage has a radius of about 500 meters at full extension and can not only block electromagnetic interference but it can shut out magical interference as well.
Mode 2: Quantum Hacking; One of the stranger and potentially more dangerous modes available, quantum hacking allows Faraday to interface with and manipulate microprocessor based systems within a close range. Unlike conventional hacking that could be chut out by barriers, quantum hacking allows Faraday to read and mimic the actual quatum mechanical events occurring in the hardware so that he hacks from the hardware up. As a probe, it allows Faraday to scan computers and, if given enough time, to mirror them so that he can steal the data they are processing. As an offensive tool, he can add in data that shouldn't be there or he can even cause massive hardware failures.
Mode 3: Electrical Blast; Faraday has one almost purely offensive ability of generating electric blasts that are no just lethal but able to vaporize small targets. It has almost only ever been used in response to threats, but it could provide impulse power so long as he doesn't overheat from use of this mode. He hasn't tried, but he is pretty sure he could just start a time traveling car if he had to.
Mode 4: Synthesis; While Coulomb could create fantastic but fleeting objects, Faraday has the ability to produce new materials from basic matter input and energy. This mode was used extensively in creating parts for Joule's most delicate parts. It comes with some danger in that the use of this mode can draw so much power that it can cause a collapse of a small but stable portal within Faraday's AES system that keeps his auxiliary (personality and soul) layer operational.

Xirit Rank

After returning home and engaging in ritualistic battles to gain rank in order to be worhty enough to speak with a Xirit mystic, Faraday has suffered some lasting damage. By the time his use of magic even in an atmosphere that was strongly anti-magic, and the fact that a tiny android had defeated twelve separate challengers of increasing standing in fights to the death, Faraday had lost his entire left arm and had been shot through with shrapnel. However, he was finally recognized as more than a machine and given his chance to stand before a Xirit mystic where they were able to confirm the origin of Faraday and Coulomb's souls. In both cases, they originated from the forgotten ley lines that remained hidden to nearly all eyes. They each have a spark and a bit of essence of a fourth species ancient and forgotten.

As a sign of rank, Faraday's left arm was replaced by the Xirit as is the custom of augmentation for warriors that are injured but otherwise survived honorably. His new arm is the same green as his body but the forearm is slightly larger and houses a single barrel linear accelerator meant to fire rods that he can enchant. In addition to the launcher, his claws have been made more prominent on his left hand and on the middle finger of his right hand along with less obvious channels in the right arm meant to help augment Faraday's casting ability and his Mode 4 operations in particular.

The left arm bears a white symbol on the shoulder. A three point star with long thin arms with white dots evenly spaced between the arms at their midpoints. Three dots for three species, three arms for the ley lines, and white in the color of the ancient species from which his spirit may have come. He is the only person with a white ranking, and his position places him in a role much like that of the Mystic's apprentices meaning he is not to be challenged but he may be sought for wisdom. It is also a piece of leverage that may help him with the most ambitious project his world has seen: a three species interstellar mission.
