Crystal Phoenix
Background and Purpose
The crystal phoenix, also known as the frozen phoenix, is the intermediary between The Jinx and its mortal avatar. In this case, that avatar is James Murphy. It exists primarily within the Dream Nexus that [The Jinx]] created to protect Gravitas from her kin. The phoenix itself is a massive crystalline being with a wingspan over five miles. The blue crystal that makes up the phoenix is not a mineral but rather crystallized memories and knowledge. Just one toothpick size piece of that crystal contains the knowledge and memory of every dream of every organism on a planet from its waking to its destruction. The Dream Nexus itself is also made from this matter and therefore hides the sum total of all dreams that have ever been or will be.
The Phoenix versus The Darkness
The Crystal Phoenix is an enemy that the Darkness cannot directly fight. The nonsensical properties of dreams is like an armor they cannot pierce, and the force of light that the phoenix bears, an energy made of wonder and imagination, can obliterate beings of Darkness just as well as it can nourish one if used correctly such as it is done with Gravitas it can bring out other aspects in them. Except for Gravitas, all Darkness despises the power of The Jinx and its avatars. Therefore, they remain enemies. The Darkness with infinite numbers and the Phoenix with infinite power and imagination.
The Shattering of the Phoenix
The Darkness eventually found a way to destroy the Crystal Phoenix. By employing madmen that served other gods of horror that were not Darkness, the Darkness began a crusade against the mortal avatars such as James Murphy in order to cause the the mortal avatar of Gravitas, Cindy Murphy, to fall into complete despair by murdering James in front of her. The Jinx draws power from Gravitas just as much as he protect her, and the act of losing his mortal avatar with a collapse into hopelessness inn Cindy, the line of the power was interrupted. This made it possible for the more agents of madness to breach the Nexus and destroy the Crystal Phoenix. With the Phoenix gone, the Jinx could not remake any of its avatars or establish a line of power to protect White Raven. In the end, Lovecraftian horrors shattered the phoenix and left the Jinx isolated and helpless while Gravitas became isolated once more. The Phoenix would not appear again until a new form and fate was chosen by the actions of Zen and Morticon.
