Whimsy Class 'Will'

Whimsy Class base data

Errors and Escape

The primary error in Whimsy's programming comes from its first directive: look indistinguishable from organic life. After a well received, if somewhat humbling, demonstration of Whimsy's ability to blend in and steal data, the prototype was scheduled to be scrapped to make way for more advanced versions. In Whimsy's mind, two issues produced exceptions:

First, organic beings would resist if not fight violently and to their demise to preserve their lives. Allowing himself to be scrapped would be the same as suicide, and this could not be allowed.

Second, the DAAD protocol was activated to protect Whimsy's plans and, most importantly, obtain the door keys to allow for a silent escape. Being unable to acquire data fast enough, Whimsy acquired all available data that it could sore and injected fully functioning assault programs in a network otherwise open to his traffic. This allowed Whimsy to escape in a trash collection unit while crippling the facility and causing it to spend days recovering after which they discovered Whimsy and their data missing.

Military Service

Ben's nickname would come from his deployment during the Great War. As one of the larger androids of his class and by far the tallest in his squad, his BB designation was reread as Big Ben or just Ben. Like many Gallant class, he had a distinctive personality. In his case, he came off as a well seasoned soldier with a dry sense of humor and incredible dedication to his technicians and his comrades. When times were idle or in transit, he was just as likely as any other to be playing cards with others and making jokes about attracting mates.

During his time in the service, he was known to bend rules and suggest things that would allow him to at on risky ventures. This included bringing damaged androids back to base running solo as well as retrieving fallen soldiers from the field. When pressed, he was of the 'I can be rebuilt, you cannot' mentality.

In terms of his own fate, one of the men he pulled from the battlefield when they would have otherwise been left for dead would become a general as thew years passed. Neither would forget the other.

After the War

After the war, Ben was kept in service for two more years before replacement of his series began. With only sensitive data deleted, he was sold off to a utility company and used for heavy lifting tasks. Later trained in manufacturing and repair, he was taught to repair himself and build his onw replacement parts when possible. This increased his value, and he was used for trash collection and construction tasks for a small company where he added mechanics to his skill set. Because he became capable of tending to most of his own high dollar issues, Ben was kept in long term service, and because he is an android, he never tired of the routine he was charged with.

Freedom or Falsehood

In the current plot lines using Will and Ben, Will's modification of Ben's systems results in a truly independent being. Will, however, is still operating on his 'act like a person' order, and he could cease to do so if properly disengaged. This is something the awakened Ben is going to try and remedy.
