Vyrrtheen Star System Summary

Stars

Vyrrtheen is a binary system consisting of two main sequence stars of red and orange color respectively. These stars are in a stable orbit and expected to remain as such for several billion years at which time the larger yellow star will become a giant and begin feeding gas into the red star. The remaining white dwarf is expected to remain until its companion becomes a giant and trigger a type 1a supernova event as the white dwarf takes on mass from the giant.

Planets and other objects

Inner Worlds

Three worlds exist close to the stars where the have been blasted and baked by the solar wind. The inner two are small rocky worlds that have been tidally locked to the stars. The third world exists in a gap between the stars and the first habitable planet. A massive crater dominates one side, and it is hypothesized that this world may have been in an orbit further out until an impact changed its orbital velocity. It now exists in a very slowly decaying orbit that will eventually cause it to plummet into the stars at the system's center in over the course of the next billion years. Evidence of ruins on the planet surface along with a failing magnetic field have left historians to postulate that a fifth ancient species once existed before the impact.

Habitable Worlds

There are two habitable worlds in the Vyrrtheen system. Third closest to the system center is an Earth-size world with approximately 75% coverage in deep oceans. The world is home to only one sentient species that is obligate aquatic organisms best described as a highly evolved jellyfish like species. Dense forests and feral species dominate all land masses. The planet has two moons that cause strong tidal effects.

The next planet out is a world slightly more than twice Earth's mass and possesses a dense atmosphere made up of nitrogen, oxygen, and helium, and water vapor. With much of its water hidden underground, only 40% of the surface is covered by oceans. The planet is surrounded by a wide ring system made up of dust and ice with a single separation between bands caused by the planet's solitary moon. The planet is home to three sentient species that represent the most technologically developed societies in the system. Evidence is present that these species have aided in the development of their other world's technology. Extensive space platforms circle the moon in a nearly complete artificial ring station.

Both worlds possess powerful magnetic fields that protect them from solar wind and outside radiation.

Outer worlds

Four large gas giants dominate the outer limits of the system. The two closest have elaborate ring systems while one super massive planet at the outer edge of the system has been likened to a small solar system of its own with an extensive system of moons. This behemoth has almost half the hydrogen to begin fusion as a red dwarf. Its presence at the outer edge of the system has prevented it from distorting the orbits of the inner worlds while turning it into a giant garbage collector. The last gas giant in between the ringed worlds and the behemoth is the smallest of the gas giants. Its sea green and blue color are not the most striking feature. It is the functional ring world that has been built around it along with habitable regions for all four sentient species. Slowly being caged in with technology, evidence suggest that this world is being slowly pushed out of orbit with an eventual gravity slingshot by the gas behemoth that should throw it clear from the star system.

Sentient Species of Vyrrtheen Gamma

Sentient Species of Vyrrtheen Delta

Vyrrtheen Strriders
Vyrrtheeni striders are the only species that claims the worlds oceans and lakes as theirs. They consist of more than twenty species that share the common traits of water-skimming appendages. Some are amphibious to a small extent and others rarely surface. Striders are generally known as careful thinkers that tend to favor debate over quick decisions.

Striders has some resemblance to insects but they bear live young and do not have any distinct developmental stages. Strider families are usually parents and two to four offspring that are generally two to three years apart in age. Their cities vary from complexes underwater to great floating cities that drift across the oceans. On the global scale, striders are organizers that help keep ideas from stagnating in endless debate or from being forgotten without cause.

Vyrrtheen Fireflies
The fireflies of Vyrrtheen are called as such because of their luminescent organs, but that is all they share with what most would think of when they hear the term. Larger and almost beetle like, they inhabit the coasts, plains, and creep up the high peaks that the moths call home. Having evolved in regions where predators were just as large and coordinated, they use their glow to trick attackers and obscure their numbers. Fierce and determined, they can be most often found in the role of city defenders, corporate leaders, and skilled tradesman. Six related species exist today, two less than they once had after nation's poorly thought out campaign against the moths, an event that has been allowed to become history rather than a grudge.
