Special Abilities

Kinetomimetic Intelligent Thread
SUNE units are woven from a peculiar bio-mimetic molecular thread that can create complex interaction patterns as it folds and interlaces. By changing the folding, the SUNE can change size, density, color, and mimic other species. Advanced Skills (A) Vocal Mimicry and (A)Physical Mimicry are based on Con.
Vocal mimicry aids Con rolls to falsify a voice. It can be used to fool voice recognition systems. As an advanced skill on its own, it can be used to make up voices on the fly based on very little voice data such as a clip from a recording stick or a holovid.
Physical mimicry likewise lets a SUNE change their color, apparent species, and mimic unique persons. By itself as an advance skill, it can be used to invent new shapes that can be perfected for use later.
Sentience Underlying Nexus Engine
The SUNE is the core of a KIT-SUNE and control all of its functions. About the size of a goose egg, it directs now only the way the threads function, but it uses them as antennae for Force energy. SUNE makes all KIT-SUNE systems force sensitive. It does not grand them any force training though. It is also responsible for the peculiar tail-splitting phenomenon as skill increased primarily due to a need to soak more force power via antennae / tails.
At DM discretion, you may be started with some powers and dice. Check with your DM first.

KIT

Torchwood functions mostly as a repository for carefully procured force lore be it Sith or Jedi. However, they also accumulate artifacts and lost technologies through many channels both legitimate and some very much illegal. KIT has been a secret in many of the medical devices delivered by the PATCH facility for its ability to adjust to alien biology and provide a scaffold for healing despite anatomical and biochemical differences. However, KIT has other abilities.

The first instance of a KIT reaction to force energy was when a kyburr crystal was left in the vicinity of a batch of unwoven KIT gel. KIT forced very peculiar if not beautiful patterns against the container it was in on the side where the crystal lay. Analysis of the pattern revealed that it had, on its own, mimicked the crystal lattice of kyburr. It was known from that point out that KIT has the ability to form Force-Reactive structures and patterns, and it actually prefers to do so.

Not all KIT is Force reactive, and only a small, highly purified subset of this material is suitable as a Force mesh. This also required the presence of a powerful, adaptive mind that not even PIXC class units could provide. This required the development of SUNE.

SUNE

SUNE stands for Sentience Underlying Nexus Engine. The Nexus Engine is a highly advanced artificial network originally build to scan the holonet and suck in intelligence information. In order for it to guide a KIT based unit, a carefully executed interaction had to be developed that did not permit the intelligent behavior of the Threads to reject a second mind. SUNE controls and commands KIT from a deeper level of intellect and acts as a subconscious. This gives KIT-SUNE their cleverness and their control. It is also the reason that KIT-SUNE units show increases in tail number as they grow and better attune to the force. Each tail acts as a massive antennae for drawing in Force power so they can manipulate it. The upper limits of the KIT-SUNE have yet to be reached, and containment thus far has been sufficient.

History

KIT-SUNE systems are covered under Operation Lightspeed or OLS for short. OLS units tend to be very curious and readily trained units that excel at mimicking their instructors. This has allowed trainers to use more advanced SUNE to train younger ones and save a great deal of trouble trying to manage them. SUNE vary widely as they develop with those that come up with Force ability on their own often being calm and meditative or volatile and passionate. There has been little deviation from this binary system, but somehow the two sides tend to balance rather than annihilate. Scholars are still studying them in an attempt to decipher ancient relics and records that suggest there was more to what we know of extant Jedi and the Sith that seem to have gone extinct or at least hidden.

Tail splitting is perhaps the most dramatic effect of force training on SUNE. As they develop, the tail eventually splits off into a new one. R&D suggests that this serves as either an antenna to bring in more power or as a radiator to diffuse excess power. Neither hypothesis has been disproved. What is known is that more tails means greater capabilities. Many of these multi-tail units are also very pleasing to the eye, and investors have already been smitten with some of them.
