Shattered Dreams

  • Jack's Dreams are haunted by a black nine-tail fox with red eyes can keeps claiming it has come for him.
    • The dreams prove to be have complexity sufficient that they are recursive and hard to tell from reality
    • Miriam also appears in the dreams as fireflies that seem to annoy the fox but otherwise is cast off as useless
    • The Fox calls itself Mae

The Briefing

The people

  • The group consists of three pairs:
    • Mappy and Jit, a pair of Vyrrtheen moths with a unique ship
    • Nigel and Nevermore, a droid of some kind and a PS raven both known for their expertise in obscure lore
    • Jack and Miriam, both force users from Suvrorr's group
  • The triad can also be broken into a second set of triads:
      • Mappy, Jit, and Nigel all represent UFED officers that are refugees from beyond the galaxy
      • Jack, Miriam, and Nevermore are all first generation PS wildkin units

The Place

The location for the mission is Site 2, a secondary archaeological site found in the same system as a much larger vessel, at site 1, that seems to be fused into a large asteroid. Site 2 also appears to be a synthetic object buried in rock, but after sensor sweeps detected an anomaly, the vessel was unearthed. While Site 1 is much larger and had evidence of life in the form of remains outside the vessel, site 2 shows no signs of life. However, it does show advanced technology and materials such that no known tool has been able to cut into or sample the structure itself. Because of this, aggressive methods of excavation were possible that opened up a large bay like area, organic like passages, and eventually a chamber that no one has been able to access. However, because of the eerie feelings associated with the chamber, it was deemed someone with additional senses would be needed.

Jack and Miriam are available and more controllable that anyone else with the force that is available. Nevermore is assigned as support for translations and mythos along with Nigel for additional expertise from beyond the galaxy. Mappy and Jit are providing transport with a special vessel capable of traversing distances in a classified manner if needed and otherwise equipped with a new hybrid warp system.

Directives

  1. Reach the site and examine the exterior structure
  2. Enter the spherical chamber if possible
  3. Return with your findings

In Flight and Staff Backgrounds

Mappy and Jit
These two are twins with Mappy being a combat cartographer and scout and Jit being an aircraft engineer. Mappy carries with him a special compass that is somehow imbued with the force. It always tells where you need to go but not how to get there although it does give an impression of distance. They are the keepers of a ship called the Shooting Star that is an older airframe fit inside of the UFED hull. Both of the moths belong to a race of beings that successfully crossed intergalactic space without a hyperdrive, and so their kind are serving as experts on how to survive in such a space while they learn how to make faster ships for such journeys.
Nigel
Nigel is a robot in a robot. The droid is actually a system core from what may have been the defense system of a machine world lost to this galaxy. He knows little of home and even less of where it is given he was able to infer he was floating dead in space for at least 20000 years on standby. He serves as a lore reference and has a knack for things in UFED such that they provide him with a place to belong and he helps them with anything he can.
Nevermore
Nevermore is a raven of PS origin. He's a little scrappy, but he is mostly wise and well versed in obscure lore that he picked up from his work with many crews who used his flight capabilities paired with his intellect and keen eyes to assist in finding valuable dig sites among other things. If you take him to a museum, he might know more about their collection than some of its curators.

Talon

Upon landing at the site, it became apparent that there is an atmosphere of some kind clinging to the structure. Other staff have left the site as not to interfere with the investigation but remain in contact with Nigel remotely. The moths stay with the ship as the group proceeds. Etchings on the structure seem to suggest a language, but Nigel and Nevermore are unable to determine what it is. They start taking better stock of the location and allow Jack and Miriam to go on ahead.

As force users, the two are able to feel out the door and this causes it to open. The interior of the sphere contains many crystals like a geode but also one massive crystal aligned vertically in the chamber that is about as long as corellian corvette. The two are able to recognize that the crystals are kyber crystals of a scale they have never seen before.

At this point, a tall, slender, rat-like being appears. He explains that he is from long ago in a galaxy far away, and that he is in fact the personification of a sentient star. The crystals match up with what Suvrorr has taught Miriam and Jack in terms of lore given that the most powerful stars have hearts of kyber. He also seems to know a great deal about everyone. More importantly, he knows about Mae. Talon explains that he fought Mae as well, and that she has other names and shapes including having used the ones of Gozer or Zuul in the past. He admits that Mae struck him in a place where he could not defend himself by attacking the one he loved. As such. Mae escaped Talon and even forced the old god into using much of his power to recreate the one he loves, Celeste, who manifested among the wildkin. He also admits her anti-self had to be made to conserve energy, and so Pazuzu has also been set upon the galaxy.

Talon also reveals that Miriam is a resurrected soul likewise born among the wildkin. As a natural spirit, Miriam cycles between life and death as all life does, but she keeps showing up in the path of Mae, and despite Mae's attempts, Miriam usually wins out in the end. However, things have changed, and Miriam's current life is not as well equipped and perhaps her spirit is getting old or tainted with all these cycles such that, without Jack to protect her from herself, Miriam could too become a destroyer like Mae.

Artifacts

In addition to widom, Talon imparts upon Jack two things: his force bow and a feline claw totem.

  • The bow he shows uses the force for actuation and hence needs a force user to operate it. It does not need arrows as it will make its own energy shots if used properly. When inactive, it is about the size of a lightsaber.
  • The claw is a totem of some kind that contains energies from MIriam's past lives that may serve her now, but Jack will have to choose the time when to use it. It is revealed that Miriam is the fireflies that keep showing up, and once upon a lifetime, she could turn her whole body in a vexing swarm to aid her allies in combat.
