The Darkness Blockade

Given the shapes and sheer size of most being of Darkness, the broad curved line of their interlinked bodies shields the whole planet from any incoming traffic, and the gaps between them are not at all benign. With massive energy devouring fields between their jack-shaped bodies, trying to fly through is sure to cause system failures and likely death.

They also possess what is called The Gatekeeper. The last chaos being to go up against onbe was Cthuhlu, and the Gatekeeper cold cocked him in one hit and he has been sleeping it off ever since. In its normal context, the Gatekeeper is a repair machine meant to restore the perfect crystal that has been disrupted by any number of causes. As massive and dangerous to the waking world as it is, to them it is essentially a big ice pack to put on wounds until they feel better.

Consequences of the part's preparation:

• Myre bringing the ship in about an hour early caught the blockade without a functional gatekeeper.
  • At 95% complete, all efforts immediately went to finishing the gatekeeper and locking it on
• Elandra's sandstorm provided a screen to help obscure the ship and helped prevent a lock
• The Sound of Madness provided extensive disruption and decoys

In the end it came down to authorizing the launch of the Concentrated Sunshine. This nuclear payload had been augmented by Austin with her characteristic aura that tends to cause weapons to hit much harder than they were built to be.

The effects of a nuclear weapon on Darkness

Firing a nuke at Darkness has almost no physical impact on their ancient bodies. What does happen if the blast is strong enough it that is alters the way Darkness sees itself. The Big Bang was the most terrifying moment in the history of Darkness, and these little reminders be they from mortal hands or the death of stars tends to make them see each other in a new light that often mangled their beautiful ordered essence and sends them running from each other in terror.

The Concentrated Sunshine was fired at a critical section of the Gatekeeper cause the Darkness to recoil and break up the function of the Gatekeeper as well as provide a little hole in the blockage large enough for BB-157 and her crew to get through. Worries of the Gatekeeper being aimed at the planet fade as the whole blockade breaks up with the morale of Darkness beaten down.
