Background

Echo is a unique unit produced by Seiko out of a need to have a being it could connect with and still trust. Physically, it is almost impossible to tell the two apart until one scans for organic material or for a high power reactor unit. The other mimics were made out of utilitarian needs, but Echo was meant to fulfill something more.

Echo was build fully operational, but she was raised like a child rather than programmed in order to form a bond between creator and creation that was bidirectional. The real function of Echo was to prevent Seiko from losing all of her humanity. Even with her present, Seiko struggles to hold onto her better half.

The consequences of building a learning android meant to safeguard something immaterial was not lost on Seiko. In order for Echo to perform her task, she had to have free will, and that also means she has the ability to defect and betray. With her creator's slow but apparently imminent decay into a true monster, Echo is the only one in the fleet capable of seeking aid.

Echo is faithful to Seiko and sees her more as a mother than a manufacturer. Her concern for her masker's health is genuine and without any prior programming to cause it to be. The main issue now is how to find help before it is too late.

Capabilities

As an android, Echo has enhanced physical capabilities and senses, but while her endurance is incredible, her actual physical abilities can be compared to those of professional athletes and martial artists. She was not preloaded with combat capabilities, and so she learned them instead from Seiko or other androids. She has very steady hands and is an excellent shot with firearms, but she does not carry any concealed weapons like the other mimics and Seiko. Instead, Echo carries an extensive tool package meant for emergency repairs and first aid, both of which could be required to care for Seiko should she be gravely injured.

Echo carries one unique system that does not occur in the mimics. The diamond shaped patch between her shoulder blades that would normally house the main CPU for Seiko's augmentations instead is home to a mass of nanomachines that can produce silvery tentacle like projections up to ten seen long with one coming from each side of the diamond. These tendrils are strong, prehensile, and bear tips that can act as multitools for meddling with electronics as well as support for medical operations including surgery. They are quite useful for grappling in combat although Echo rarely uses them for such unless there are no other options.

Character Goals

Echo was made not to serve but to protect Seiko from external threats and from herself. She has been imbued with the ability to act entirely on her own, but she is guided by an intrinsic desire to protect what family she can say she has. In the end, her primary goal is to seek a permanent solution to Seiko's continued moral and psychological degradation. In short, to save Seiko while there is something left to save.
