Origin

Lyra Ikari is the daughter of Morticon and Hitomi "Umbra" Ikari. Lyra perished with her mother when Tak'nhetian forces captured her. Both Hitomi and Lyra's spirits were prevented from crossing over tot he afterlife by a powerful spirit. Rei Ikari, a legendary mage and one of their ancestors prevented their transition until Hitomi could be placed into the position of a death goddess for a new world. When the strain of being a re-born entity acting as death itself grew too much for Hitomi, she was given two things to ease her pain. The first was an island sanctuary where she was simply the head of the ruling family. This special island became home to the mist thieves, a species of people made up of their souls given shape in the mortal realm. More importantly, the first of these beings was Lyra. Having a life to care for balanced out her role as death, and thus Lyra came into the world.

Training and Childhood

As an Ikari, both the mystic arts and the role of an assassin were prominent in Lyra's life. However, the Isle of Mist also had one special rule: you could never leave the island until you proved yourself as a thief. One might think an island full of thieves would be a disaster, but there was never any strain on resources such that people had to struggle for their living. Instead, young thieves would plan and execute their own heists, and they would hold their loot until such time as the owner declared it missing. They could then return the loot to prove it was their work and thus get recognition for their work. Thieves of the Isle of Mist have a strong code of honor to never steal anything that could risk the victim's life. These lessons all began early, and as the daughter of the famed Hitomi Ikari, Lyra had a great deal of pressure on her to perform.

The tools of the assassin were the last taught to Lyra because Hitomi wanted her to be more free than she had been as a child. She wanted Lyra to be focused more on mystic arts and thievery rather than the role of taking lives, but she knew her daughter would eventually need those skills. Lyra was an accomplish scamp by six years old, and her sticky fingers earned her praise. At eight, Hitomi began teaching her how to harness her ki and use it in combat. She would spend eight years in intensive training as she learned to fill her mother's shoes. At around ten years old, Rei began teaching her about the old gods and how to harness her ki for more than just fighting. By the time she was sixteen, she was ready to be a right terror to anyone off the island. However, all mist thieves of all families had one final task to prove they were of age: they had to escape the island alone and unaided.

All mist thieves can turn into mist for short times and move about. Off the island, this is a very powerful skill, but on the island, everyone can counter it. That left everyone to use all their other skills to escape. Lyra, with her black fur, moved at night and managed to steal a small sailboat. Making an offering to their patron god, Leviathan, she found fair waters and a soft breeze to get her out of port and well away from the island before the boat could be missed. Once she found the great Wall of Mist, a barrier than can only be passed by having a mist thief with you, she finally left the waters of her homeland and was in hostile territory.

Most mist thieves need only escape and come back with any small evidence they had been gone, but Lyra's aspiration were greater, and so the demands on here were likewise more. She spent four months away from home stalking and finally tracking down a temporal mage that could provide her with a component she would need in order to travel across space and time to see her father. That Hitomi was not afraid or in mourning for her daughter was enough that everyone knew Lyra was still out there. The moment she returned, she was met by her mother and Rei at the docks. She was now an adult. Her quest and what lay before her meant she would be leaving again perhaps for good. She was given what any sixteen year old might want on such an occasion: a party.

Lyra remained home for two more months to be with her family while Hitomi taught her about the world of Spindizzy as well as about her father. She provided Lyra with an old, tattered wallet as a focus for finding Morticon and proof of who she was. The two month waiting period was also in due to her blade being forged. Rei and Hitomi both carried katana, a huge one in Rei's case, but Lyra was given a tanto, a stout dagger. The small size made it easier to conceal, and Rei warned her that the blade was special. She said that it was sleeping, but when the time was right, it would awaken, but only when that time, when her soul was ready.

Not knowing if she would ever see them again, Lyra bid her family goodbye, and with all things in place, she traveled both across space and back in time to be in the world of her father.

Leaving for Spindizzy

Lyra left the Isle of Mist and landed on Spindizzy in late November. Getting used to the chill air compared to the near tropical conditions took a little shoplifting, and she got a crash course in evading technology that simple didn't exist on the island. Her mother, having lived on Spindizzy for some years, did prepare her though. It was Christmas even when she finally found her father. She did what came naturally: she stole his wallet. Morticon pursued her and chased her down an alley where he finally cornered her.

Morticon was about ready to beat her when she said two words, "Hi Dad." She gave him back his wallet, and then she gave him back the older wallet from the days when Hitomi was stealing them for fun. A brush along her neck revealed she had the same spines along her neck that he did. Lyra was worried that he might not accept her as she watched him stare at her in shock. When he realized who her mother must be, Lyra was welcomed into his family, and at last Lyra knew who her father was.

Descriptions

Black Wallaroo

As her species might imply, Lyra is a wallaroo, a species of macropod somewhere between wallaby and kangaroo in size, with black fur. However, given her parents, her fur is exceptionally dark with her green eyes being the only break in the shadowy darkness that her mother was known for. She possesses small spines along the back of her neck that are typically hidden from view, but these small spikes roughly an inch or two long betray who her father is. Child of Morticon and Hitomi "Umbra" Ikari, she has her parent's best traits, and that is sure to mean the worst for everyone else. Tied in a ponytail, Lyra only allows her hair to reach between her shoulder blades at the most if only to keep it from being as easily grabbed. Her wardrobe tends to be rather variable, but she favors baggy pants with plenty of pockets and loose-fitting shirts that when combined are somewhat like a sort of modern day ninja in their ability to make the shape of the body beneath them harder to know with certainty. More often than not, her feet are wrapped in black athletic tape for protection and her paws similarly wrapped from plan to the middle of her forearm to keep them somewhat protected during whatever it is this sneaky critter likes to do.

Lyra is typically a warm, friendly wallaroo that welcomes almost anyone to come and talk with her. She's also Umbra and Morti's kid, so keep a close tab on your wallet

Water Dragon

Lyra appears as a non-morphic dragoness roughly thirty give feet long with a sleek, athletic body made for moving through water. Each of her toes end in sturdy claws with webbing in between them. Her head has slender jaws line with numerous backward angled conical teeth meant for grasping and piercing rather than chewing. Her long, thick tail is structured like that of an otter with a slight flattening to make it useful as a rudder. Her main propulsion in water and possibly in air are a pair of large wings with a wingspan likely to be close to twenty five feet. They are not scaled or leathery but rather feathered wings. These wings are unusual in that they are inconstant. In water, they resemble the wings of swimming birds like penguins in forming a smooth surface ideal for swimming with all the feathers locked against each other in a water-repellent manner. Outside of water, they appear more like conventional wings of birds, specifically those of a hawk or even an osprey. Hidden among her belly scales is a pouch that seems to have carried over from being a wallaroo.

Lyra's overall colors are black and dark blue. Her head, body, limbs and tail are all black while the webbing of her toes and her wings are a deep blue like that one might see deep underwater. Her eyes are green. but they have an unnatural property in that they are green uniformly with no visible pupil. An almost constant aura of moisture around her and the faint scent of sea water suggests water magic and perhaps more at work.
