Theme Song and Character Meaning

Jamey is a very special character in that he is me. He has my physical dimensions, health issues, skills, etc... Even his name is an anagram of my full name including middle name. Everything he is for the better part is me. I was inspired to create him after seeing a few images of another person's avatar stumbling blindly as they tried to find their glasses, and I could immediately relate after having to hunt my bedroom for my glasses by touch more than a few times. In his out-of-character or casual sense, he is me, and when used in character he still draws his traits from me with one silly exception in that, based on old jokes, he takes a 12 inch cast iron skillet into combat.

As a theme song, Wayward Son is a song that pretty well spells out who I am and how I feel with each line except for the final verse which I have yet to reach in my life. In short, it is the idea of learning too much too young and ruining concepts like faith and religion, the hiding behind the mask of a happier, wiser person than I am as I drown in the sea of emotion, and the general feeling of being the one that does not fit in whether it be at work, home, or among friends. The last verse of the song contains 'Now your life is no longer empty; surely heaven waits for you.' It is one of the lines I have not felt fits me, but one I wish did.

Background

Character Sheet

Jamey is a ringtail cat, which is not a lemur or a cat but rather a member of the raccoon family, that grew up in Minnesota. He grew up fishing and eventually went on to hunt deer, things his father taught him, and he is fond of baking and horror movies, things learned from his mother. He and his younger sister are the only science minded folks in the family but home-grown engineering and crafts run strong on both their mother and father's sides. Jamey went on to get degrees in biology and chemistry, tried his best for a doctorate in chemistry but only emerged with a masters, but soon found that fate had better plans for him. He has been working as a biologist / bio-chemist for over a decade in the same research lab as part of a hospital's research program.

Jamey is a hobby artist favoring traditional media, has an over-active imagination and tends to create a lot of characters for role playing and stories, and has a love of both beer and coffee. He's tried over 400 different beers, but he'll never claim to be an expert but rather and enthusiast that loves to share, and he has roomates actively broadening his pallet and getting into whiskey and more, but he doesn't overdo it.

Jamey has some serious shortcomings. His sight is terrible, and he requires glasses. Even with them, he has no depth perception, so he avoids ball sports like the plague unless you want to count bowling. He also has bipolar disorder that has, until recently, never been under control. The disorder has strained relationships in the past and made him nervous about trying again, and so he remains single and without much hope of settling with anyone.

Jamey is generally friendly, but he is quite introverted and can be quite shy until he knows someone. He prefers quality over quantity in most things including his friends. He likes to share, especially food and drink, and tends to be very loyal to those that have earned his trust.

Persistence

Anytime something happens to Jamey that could result in his demise, a new version of him will emerge out of one of his sketchbooks or postings to replace him. It might also have something to do with a very carefully hidden ball he doesn't let anyone play with.

Pokemon

Since the place of humans in the world of Pokemon is a bit odd, and if one remembers Bill from ages back got himself fused with a pokemon, who knows how they relate to the world around them.

There is a distinct possibility that Jamey as a ringtail is a human that a actually underwent evolution. He would be considered eevee like as a huamn in that it is hard to know what and how he would evolve, but his ringtail self is the result. He is jokingly a Science / Coffee type, but more seriously he might be Normal or Normal/Dark type.

You're going to need more than a plain pokeball. You'll need a beer ball to catch him! It is possible he already has a ball that he is keeping hidden and for good reason.

Jamey's Pokeball

When you one day wake up and realize you have not only changed species but that there is a whole big problem surrounding someone trying to trap you in a ball and try to make you do their bidding, you make plans. Jamey carefully acquired a custom pokeball that he has bound himself too. It not only can shrink him down and fit him inside, it has a coffee machine and a stash of cold beer as well. In addition, he made sure he could escape it at will so that he doesn't end up trapped there.

The Ball's Glitch
Jamey's pokeball has an interesting glitch: the energy field that he now can interface with does not always return him back to his proper size and thus runs the risk of inadvertently making him emerge larger or, far more often, much smaller than usual. He can appear from his ball as small as a mouse or up to two stories tall. Given the bias towards smaller sizes when the glitch happens, there may be an energetic cost in the system that causes this. As annoying as this can be, Jamey can't risk trying to transfer himself, so its there to stay.
