History

Childhood

Evelyn is the second daughter of Eli and Ari East, the former being an incarnation of a storm god. Ari's incantations regarding his manifestation were less about calculated casting and more about raw emotion. In fact, it was her staring down yet another catastrophic storm coming off the Pacific from the patio of her house shouting "What the hell do you want from us? Why don't you come down here so we can understand you?" That did indeed cause the storm to wane and the god himself to appear before Ari.

"So what do I call you?"

"I've never had much for names short of what the weather service comes up with each year."

"FIne, I'm calling you Eli."

"You're naming me after your dead cat?"

"You wanted a name, you got one. Now deal with it."

Ari was a balance of bold, intelligent, and honest, and these things Eli took to liking. He also enjoyed her screaming the first time he took her flying without an aircraft. They stayed together for five years in which time Ari learned a great deal of what Eli did, and she was eventually given some power over the local weather so she would understand the consequences of getting 'perfect weather' over what they often had more naturally. Their long time together eventually resulted in their first daughter, Wendy, and four years later their second, Evalyn.

Both girls were wily and imaginative, and they both received a lot more schooling on nature and natural events than most specialists had. It was the pair of them that straddled the line between the old gods and modern technology, but they always had a strong connection back to the former.

Evelyn was 14 when Wendy and Eli were killed on a high mountain road on their way to take Wendy to college. Ari knew almost immediately when she lost her connection to the local weather. Their deaths were not coincidental although it is uncertain if the earth elemental had been sent after them. What everyone knows is that the remains of that elemental now occupy a crater in the high desert after Eli took him to the very limits of the atmosphere and assisted its descent to meteoric speeds.

Both Ari and Evelyn weathered the loss better than most would if only because they could still hear Eli and Wendy on the wind and in the rain. They left pinwheels of all kinds at the grave that would spin even on a seemingly calm day. Some thought them unsightly, but most who tried to remove them could feel a cold dread of being hunted as if by some predatory beast.

The loss of her father and her sister drove Evelyn to the military where she felt she could find a position where she could protect others.

College and Military

Evelyn was as fiercely competitive in college as most pre-med students are. She started off with the Navy at the same time by attending college full time and using the off hours for military training. She took a strong liking to applied physics, and she placed high enough to enter some senior level classes as a sophomore including electrical engineering and mechanical engineering. She also managed to slide in at least some Russian and Chinese language classes with the justification that she may need them after she graduates.

From there, Evelyn started as an aircraft mechanic, and this familiarized her not only with the planes but with the physics behind them. She steadily moved up in rank and took on additional training in aircraft engineering with the intention of eventually moving her to a higher clearance test site. About the only thing she didn't know about the planes was how to fly them, and while she was given the chance, she opted to be support crew instead.

Some vehicles, however, don't take no for an answer.

Interaction with Teal

Evelyn was still a junior member of the naval research labs charged with dealing with handling anomalies and threats coming from the ocean. Teal appeared after a particularly powerful storm and proceeded to walk sluggishly in the direction of civilization resulting in him being picked up and contained at the facility. Because of her recent transfer, she had only sufficient experience to act as technician, but that meant she was cleared and charged with being near to the entity in order to check vitals, perform scans, and judge the general containment area for signs of damage or breach. She wasn't the only person charged with this task not was she the dedicated solely to Teal. However, she was the first bring that caused it to go active.
