Chimera Core / Protein Solutions Bugbear

The allure of a shapeshifting agent has long been an unattainable dream among many lifeform engineers. The advent of a more mature LIfeform Prime version used to spawn countless wildkin species, however, made the engineers ask a question: does Lifeform Prime need to fully differentiate to survive, or can it be created as a semi-stable material that can rearrange itself on demand? The answer would not come easily, and it would require the vanishing of several Clawdites, a shapeshifting species native often found operating as assassins or bounty hunters, to get the wealth of biological data necessary to create a new system

The Adaptive Minimally Differentiated Wildkin, AMDW, was the result. It was not the first undifferentiated Lifeform Prime as at least a few had been made over time, but it stood as the only one that could alter its composition and structure on demand. Because of their niche, the AMDW were slated to be used as intelligence officers, to replace diplomats, and pin criminal acts on other companies. Knowing the full implications of what they may do, a basal mythological shape was used to set it apart from the rest of the wildkin and provide a means to tracking up among its handlers during early training. Because it had to ability to appear as other beings, a failsafe system was added to the unit to force it back into its basal state and prevent unauthorized shape changes. A combination biorhythm and gene lock, the bug bear could be tracked even after changing form using highly specialized equipment. However, as it has been said, life will find a way, and there remains a risk that heavily used bugbear may show drift in their primary code.

It should also be noted that bugbears can change gender, but they do has a basal gender bias from their creation.

The Bugbear is still in prototype at the time when the first generation wildkin arrive. This unit does not appear outside of the base until after the second generation units have deployed. To practice, the two prototype units were often inserted in different parts of protein solutions to spy and report back what they found on their unannounced inspections. When allowed to free roam, bugbears are terribly prone to using unnatural shapes and quiet movement to scare the hell out of anyone they can.

While their shapeshifting is not a force driven ability, one bugbear has an unusual affinity for creepy crawlies and vermin that she will gleefully sick on folks. Beyond her shapeshifting, she also seems capable of generating illusions to a limited extent. These behaviors along with the units are considered to be among the highest security data and should not be reported to the force training core or the Jedi council.

Appearance

IN their true basal state, the AMDW looks like a pale, hairless humanoid with large, dark eyes and an otherwise stout shape. They have a slightly bear or canine like head shape, but these are only observed when forced to revert to their true basal form. Their more commonly observed form, referred to as slot one in reference to it being in addition to the prime state is that of an unnatural looking bear. Their eyes are white and lack a discernable pupil, they takes on dark brown to black fur, and their claws are disproportionally long which gives them a more dangerous appearance. It seems they are able to flex these claws and even type with him or use tools which only makes them appear even more uncanny. In this form, they love to creep around and terrorize folks, but they have never actually attacked and caused harm.

Other forms are often copied from targets or from people they need to imitate in order to finish a job. Both units completed recruit training by hiding as other wildkin, but they are not often seen, or, at the very least, not obviously doing work elsewhere.

Bugbear Instincts
Charm, Deception, Perception, Resilience, Stealth
Bugbears consider these skills to be class traits and receive an additional two advantages to their rolls with these skills.
Changeling (35)
As an action, suffer 3 strain and make an Average (2 difficulty) Resilience check. Success allows to change appearance to match a character who was previously observed. Others must make an opposed Perception vs Deception check to detect something is amiss.
XP 60
